local history ..arlington has a secret

I am a lover of history. I really love local history. Here is a spot that I checked out with a fellow history nerd this past summer.
We had some classes together this summer and had a long break between classes and during that time we would take little history field trips.. yes we were ..okay still are that nerdy.
Anyway one of those trips was to Top O Hill Terrace in Arlington, TX. It once was a casino that is now a seminary. The casino was hidden behind the disguise of legit tearoom. Murder, booze, a brothel and more celebrities than a Hollywood premiere... man if those walls could talk. I wont go into to much detail but I highly recommend that you check it out. The tour was free but welcomed donations. The presentation was well researched and riveting. So if you are looking to take advantage of freeconomics check it out. Here is the link . The pic is of one of the tunnels.

What's in a name? That which we call a rose

I have changed my blog title about 7 times now. I read all these other blogs with their snappy names and really havent found one that seems to suit my purpose. So I am open to suggestions as I hopefully aquire readers.Leave a comment and name my blog!

Mexican Pig Sniffles and other things to be alarmed about

Okay, I will be honest. There is a tiny part of me that wants to quarintine my family until the almighty WHO, CDC or other trustworthy ackronym tells me it is safe. I tried it. I lasted 1 day. Yes one day. The next day was business as usual as I couldnt resist when a friend said lets have lunch. I mean what was I going to say .. okay let me get my HAZ MAT suit on and then I will go. I went weilding my hand sanitizer. I tried to hone my listening skills trying to catch cough or sniffle so that I jump away and put the recommended 6 feet between myself and the virus that has everyone oinking wolf.

So here is my confession at my sons baseball game I appointed myself the germ police and would inappropriately jump into the dugout and hose the boys down with germ sanitizer. Some parents said Oh yeah great idea others I think were chuckling. I think the coaches were perhaps a little irritated when the players were rubbing in the apple blossom hand goop trying to kill any pig germs that might be on their hands instead of squeezing their little hans into gloves and hustling out to the field.

So I pose this.....what have you done in the midst of pig flu hysteria? Yes I know PIG FLU is not PC (politically correct) term for the flu, after all it is not the poor pigs fault) but that is the benefit of this being my blog I can say what I want.

So I want to know .... is all this pig flu overreaction? appropriate or maybe a ploy to help us forget about the sick economy(which in my opinion is not on life support as they say but that is another whole post).
